Overview

What does Fin do?

Fin is a customer support agent that answers inbound questions across chat, email and social channels without a human involved. It grounds every answer in your help centre, past conversations, internal documentation and connected systems, and hands off to a human the moment confidence drops.

What separates it from a chatbot is action-taking. Given the right permissions it can look up an order, check a subscription in Stripe, process a refund within policy, or update an account โ€” so it resolves the question rather than explaining how the customer could resolve it themselves.

The commercial model is the most customer-friendly in this category: you are billed per resolution, not per seat or per conversation. If Fin fails to resolve and escalates to a human, you generally do not pay for that interaction, which aligns the vendor's incentives with yours in a way seat pricing does not.

Features

Fin features

Outcome-based pricing

Charged per successful resolution rather than per seat, so the cost tracks the value delivered.

Grounded answers with citations

Answers are drawn from your help centre, snippets and past tickets, with sources attached so agents can audit them.

Actions and workflows

Call your APIs mid-conversation to check orders, issue refunds or update records inside policy limits you define.

Works on top of Zendesk

You do not have to migrate helpdesks. Fin can run as the AI layer over an existing Zendesk or Salesforce setup.

Confidence-based handoff

Escalates with full conversation context rather than guessing, which is the main driver of customer satisfaction scores.

Multilingual by default

Answers in dozens of languages from English-only source content.

Integrations

Integrations and how to connect Fin

What Fin connects to, and the order to set it up in.

  1. Connect your content

Point Fin at your help centre, upload PDFs and add internal snippets. Content quality is the single largest factor in resolution rate.

  2. Connect your helpdesk

Run it natively inside Intercom, or connect Zendesk or Salesforce if you are not migrating.

  3. Define actions

Expose the specific API calls Fin may make โ€” order lookup, subscription status, refund within a value limit โ€” each with explicit guardrails.

  4. Set handoff rules

Decide the confidence threshold and which topics always go to a human. Billing disputes and cancellations are common exclusions.

  5. Run in draft mode first

Have Fin suggest replies for human approval for a few weeks, measure quality, then switch to autonomous on the topics it handles well.

Fit

Who is Fin for?

Great fit

SaaS and e-commerce support teams

The strongest fit. High volume of repetitive, documentable questions is exactly the shape Fin resolves well.

Great fit

Teams already on Intercom

Near-zero adoption friction โ€” it is a toggle plus content configuration.

Good fit

Zendesk shops not ready to migrate

Good fit thanks to the native Zendesk integration, though some deeper features favour Intercom.

Poor fit

Support orgs with sparse documentation

Poor fit until that changes. With no good source content, resolution rates stay low and the per-resolution model saves nothing.

Use cases

Best use cases for Fin

Tier-1 deflection at volume

Password resets, order status, plan changes, how-do-I questions โ€” the bulk of most support queues.

24/7 coverage without night shifts

Out-of-hours resolution rather than a queue that greets customers in the morning.

Multilingual support without hiring

Serving markets where you have documentation but no native-speaking staff.

Billing and subscription self-service

Where the Stripe integration lets it actually resolve rather than deflect.

User sentiment

What other users say about Fin

A summary of publicly available feedback about Fin โ€” not paid testimonials.

Support leaders report resolution rates that were not achievable with previous-generation chatbots, and the per-resolution model is repeatedly cited as the reason procurement approved it. Criticism centres on unpredictable monthly bills at high volume, and on disagreements about what counts as a billable resolution.

What users praise

  • Resolution rates well beyond older rule-based chatbots
  • Pay-per-resolution aligns cost with value
  • Citations make answers auditable by the support team
  • Runs on top of Zendesk without a helpdesk migration

Common complaints

  • Monthly cost is volume-dependent and hard to budget
  • Definition of a billable resolution is a common source of dispute
  • Performance falls off sharply with thin documentation
  • Total cost climbs once you add Intercom seats on top

We publish individual user reviews only once they have been collected and attributed to a real source. None have been collected for Fin yet. Used it? Send us your review.

FAQ

Fin frequently asked questions

What counts as a resolution?

Broadly, a conversation Fin closes without human involvement โ€” either the customer confirms it is resolved or they disengage after a satisfactory answer. Read the current definition carefully during procurement; it is the most disputed line in the contract.

Do I have to move to Intercom?

No. Fin has a native Zendesk integration and works with Salesforce, so you can adopt the agent without migrating your helpdesk.

Can it issue refunds?

Yes, through Actions, within limits you define โ€” for example refunds under a set value on orders less than 30 days old. You control the policy boundaries.

What resolution rate should I expect?

It depends almost entirely on documentation quality and question mix. Teams with mature help centres and repetitive queues report substantially higher rates than teams with thin content. Run draft mode first to measure yours before committing.
